Description

This session will examine the fast-paced evolution of fire sprinkler system design and installation in North America since flexible fittings were first included in NFPA 13 with the 2010 edition. The conversion of hard pipe arm-overs to stainless steel flexible fittings in fewer than 15 years is unprecedented. This session explores the factors influencing this change, including: 1) the need to enhance fire sprinkler system durability and safety, especially in seismic zone areas; 2) the need for products to address a quickly evolving labor force; and 3) enhancements to codes & standards governing sprinkler system design.

Upon completion of this seminar, attendees will be able to:

  • Describe the evolution of arm-overs from hard-pipe to flexible technology.
  • Identify the main factors that influenced the transition to flex drops.
  • Evaluate various sprinkler system designs and how the various arm-over choices impact the design.
  • Explain which arm-over technology is best suited for specific sprinkler design conditions.
