Description

Inadvertent sprinkler activations in the absence of a fire can lead to notable monetary losses due to significant water damage, especially in high-rise luxury residential, office, and mixed-use buildings. The root cause of unwanted non-fire sprinkler activations can be divided into eight primary categories: freezing, overheating, corrosion, chemical attack, poor installation, accidental mechanical damage, intentional sabotage, and manufacturing defects. This seminar will discuss the eight types of unwanted non-fire sprinkler activations and utilize a collection of case studies to demonstrate failure modes of real-life scenarios in which the root cause was determined.

Upon completion of this seminar, attendees will be able to:

  • List and describe the failure modes associated inadvertent sprinkler activations.
  • Describe recommended installation and ITM guidelines and best practices to reduce the likelihood of accidental sprinkler activations.
  • Discuss the importance of code requirements, installation standards, and manufacturers' guidelines and their role in reducing liability.
