This presentation will discuss the different types of sprinkler systems. At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant will be able to understand and apply the definition of a “sprinkler system” according to NFPA 13 and the three types of system configurations (tree, loop, and grid). In addition, the participant will be able to identify the four types of sprinkler systems (wet, dry, preaction, and deluge) and understand how they activate.

At the completion of this presentation, you should be able to:

  1. Identify the four types of sprinkler systems and understand how they activate
  2. Navigate NFPA 13 to determine the applicable requirements for specific systems
  3. Understand acceptable system arrangements, pitching of pipe and drainage requirements for each system type
  4. Identify limitations on system size based on system type, total area, total volume, and number of sprinklers
